Former Chief Justice David Maraga has met Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi ahead of the Linda Mwananchi movement’s political tour of Kisii and Nyamira counties.
Maraga shared the update on Thursday, July 2, through his social media pages. He said the meeting came ahead of the opposition’s public engagements in the Gusii region.
Maraga said he welcomed the two leaders to Kisii before Friday’s events.
“I was pleased to host Governor Irungu Kang’ata and Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisii ahead of the Linda Mwananchi events in Kisii and Nyamira tomorrow,” he stated.
He also urged leaders from different political parties to unite behind constitutionalism, the rule of law and inclusive economic growth.
Opposition Heads to Gusii
The Linda Mwananchi movement will hold a series of meetings across Kisii and Nyamira on Friday, July 3. The tour comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Siaya Governor James Orengo rallied supporters through a post on X, urging residents to attend the events. The day’s programme includes a 10 a.m. meeting with women leaders at Monarch Mosocho, a 1 p.m. rally in Kisii Town, a 3 p.m. stop in Keumbu and a 4 p.m. meeting in Keroka.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other opposition leaders are expected to join the tour.
Former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo also encouraged residents to attend the meetings through a post on X.
Focus Shifts to Gusii Politics
The opposition has intensified its activities in the Gusii region as parties prepare for the 2027 elections.
The region has long supported ODM under former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. However, it has drawn fresh political attention following the rise of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as a key opposition figure.
