Lamu Woman Representative Muthoni Marubu has withdrawn her planned support for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), accusing the party’s Deputy Party Leader and Lamu Governor Issa Timamy of undermining her political activities.
Marubu announced the decision on Tuesday, August 11, saying she would no longer participate in UDA mobilisation, grassroots elections or other party activities in Lamu County.
Marubu entered Parliament in 2022 after winning the Lamu Woman Representative seat on an independent ticket.
She said she had planned to join UDA ahead of the 2027 General Election after President William Ruto asked her to help strengthen the party’s presence in Lamu.
According to the lawmaker, she spent three months mobilising for UDA and held 42 grassroots meetings across the county while registering new members.
However, she claims Governor Timamy failed to support the mobilisation drive.
Marubu accused Timamy of selectively pushing for fresh UDA grassroots elections in Lamu West while leaving Lamu East, which she described as his political stronghold, untouched.
She argued that the move amounts to political sabotage rather than an effort to ensure credible party elections.
