Wiper Patriotic Front Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said he is ready to deputise Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna if the opposition selects him as its presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an interview on NTV on Monday, August 10, Kalonzo said his main focus remains building a united opposition team that can defeat President William Ruto in the next election.
He said he would support a Sifuna-Kalonzo ticket if opposition leaders agree that the arrangement gives them the best chance of winning.
“This time, we are not leaving anything to chance. Whatever it takes. Of course, I have no problem at all in supporting Sifuna,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo Open to Supporting Other Leaders
The Wiper leader clarified that his support does not only revolve around Sifuna.
He said he would support any opposition candidate chosen through consensus, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Eugene Wamalwa or Martha Karua.
Kalonzo added that he believes Sifuna would also support him if opposition leaders choose him as the presidential candidate.
“I have no problem supporting him. I have no problem supporting Gachagua,” he stated.
Sifuna Builds Momentum Ahead of 2027
Kalonzo’s comments come as political discussions intensify over the opposition figure who should challenge President Ruto in 2027.
Recent opinion polls have placed Sifuna among the top opposition figures attracting support ahead of the election.
A TIFA survey released in July indicated that many ODM supporters preferred Sifuna as the party’s presidential candidate compared to other potential contenders.
However, President Ruto continues to enjoy strong support according to recent opinion surveys.
Opposition Leaders Seek Unity
Sifuna has recently increased his political activities across the country as he seeks to strengthen his national profile.
The Nairobi senator has repeatedly called for opposition leaders to unite behind one candidate to challenge Ruto.
Kalonzo’s latest remarks highlight the growing negotiations within opposition circles as political leaders prepare for the 2027 General Election.
