President William Ruto has directed the Ministry of Education to award Ksh5 million to every school and institution that participated in this year’s music and drama festivals.
Ruto announced the directive on Friday during the State Concert for the 98th Kenya Music Festival at Bungoma State Lodge.
Schools to Receive Funding for Creative Arts
The President said the government wants to recognise institutions that took part in the competitions and support the growth of creative arts in schools and colleges.
“There are over 30 schools and colleges participating in this event today. We want to say congratulations. I want to ask the Ministry of Education that the schools and institutions be awarded Ksh5 million each as a show of gratitude and appreciation,” Ruto said.
Ogamba Asked to Arrange Disbursement
Ruto directed Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba to begin arrangements for the release of the funds.
He said the institutions should use the money to improve facilities that support music, drama and other creative activities.
The President also urged schools to invest in infrastructure and preparations for future music and drama festivals.
Government Could Spend Over Ksh150 Million
More than 30 schools and colleges participated in the State Concert, meaning the directive could require the government to spend over Ksh150 million if each institution receives the full Ksh5 million allocation.
The announcement forms part of the administration’s broader effort to strengthen creative arts and talent development in educational institutions across the country.
