Leon Malala Declares Bid for MP Seat, Calls for Youth-Led Leadership Shift

Leon Malala, son of Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party leader Cleophas Malala, has announced his intention to contest for a Member of Parliament seat, marking his entry into active politics.

Speaking in Nyeri on Saturday, April 11, he positioned his candidature as part of a broader push for youth leadership, arguing that young people represent the country’s most powerful demographic force. He said the youth have both the numbers and the influence to drive national change, insisting that leadership should reflect their growing role in society.

He emphasized that his decision is not driven by personal ambition or family political ties, but by what he described as a leadership gap that needs urgent attention. According to him, the country requires a new generation of leaders who can respond to modern challenges with fresh ideas and energy.

Leon also framed his message around generational transition, urging young people to take an active role in shaping governance rather than remaining passive observers. He pointed to the increasing influence of technology and innovation, suggesting that leadership must evolve just as quickly as society does.

His remarks add to the growing wave of young political aspirants positioning themselves ahead of the next election cycle, as competition for parliamentary seats begins to intensify.
