Eric Omondi Released on Ksh100000 Bond After JKIA Arrest

Comedian Eric Omondi secured release on a Ksh100,000 bond after his arrest at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on June 5.

He faces charges of obstructing motorists under Section 53.1c of the Kenya Roads Act. Authorities accuse him of leaving 120 empty jerricans on a Nairobi street during an incident on Kimathi Street on May 18, 2026.

The prosecution states that Omondi removed 120 empty 10-litre jerricans from an Isuzu lorry (registration KAR 508Y). The act allegedly blocked traffic and disrupted movement along the busy road.

Omondi’s legal team, led by Embakasi MP Babu Owino, rejected the charges and called the arrest unjustified and without legal basis.

Babu Owino described the case as “frivolous, fickle, limping, and vexatious,” and insisted that authorities wrongly targeted the comedian.

The court will hear the case again as investigations continue. Authorities insist that blocking traffic remains a criminal offence, while Omondi’s team expects the charges to collapse in court.
