The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has opened recruitment for polling, queuing and counting clerks in Mwingi West Constituency. The temporary positions will involve supporting election officials with voter identification, queue management and ballot counting.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must be Kenyan citizens who demonstrate high integrity and are willing to remain non-partisan throughout the electoral exercise. Candidates are also required to have attained at least a KCSE aggregate grade of C-.
Good character is another requirement for consideration. Applicants must also be available for the entire duration of the exercise and must be residents of the relevant County Assembly Ward.
Duties of Successful Applicants
The selected clerks will work under the supervision of the Presiding Officer at designated polling stations. Before voting starts, they will assist with arranging polling stations and preparing counting rooms.
Queue management will also form a major part of the assignment. Clerks will direct voters to the appropriate polling stations and help maintain an orderly flow during the voting process.
Voter verification will be undertaken before ballots are issued. Clerks will inspect voters’ fingers for indelible marks, confirm their identities and issue stamped ballot papers to voters whose details have been verified in the register.
After voting ends, the clerks will assist the Presiding Officer in sorting ballots during the counting process. Additional official responsibilities may also be assigned depending on the requirements at the polling station.
IEBC Clerk Jobs Pay KSh1,000 Per Day
Successful applicants will be paid KSh1,000 for each day worked. The positions require candidates to remain available throughout the period covered by the electoral exercise.
The recruitment is therefore targeted at applicants who can commit their time to the assignment without conflicting political interests. Non-partisanship is specifically listed among the conditions for appointment.
