EPRA Lowers Petrol and Diesel Prices for June-July Cycle as motorists get relief from reduced fuel costs across Kenya. Motorists will pay less for petrol and diesel after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced new fuel prices for the June-July cycle. The revised prices take effect at midnight and will remain in force until July 14.
EPRA set the price of Super Petrol in Nairobi at Ksh214.03 per litre. Diesel will retail at Ksh222.86 per litre, while kerosene remains at Ksh191.38 per litre.
The regulator reduced petrol prices by Ksh0.22 per litre. Diesel prices dropped by Ksh10.00 per litre, offering significant relief to motorists and transport operators.
Global Market Influence
EPRA linked the changes to movements in global fuel import costs. The landed cost of Super Petrol declined by 0.56 percent between April and May.
The cost of importing petrol fell from USD906.23 to USD901.16 per cubic metre. Kerosene import costs also dropped by 0.33 percent during the same period.
Diesel import costs rose slightly by 0.21 percent. Despite the increase, consumers will still pay lower pump prices due to government intervention.
The government will spend about Ksh10.3 billion from the Petroleum Development Levy Fund. The funds will support diesel and kerosene prices and cushion consumers from higher costs.
The subsidy aims to protect households and businesses from fuel price shocks. It also helps stabilize transport and production costs across the economy.
Oil Prices and Exchange Rate
Global oil prices declined before EPRA released the latest review. U.S. crude dropped by 3.7 percent, while Brent crude fell by 3.19 percent.
The Kenya shilling also remained stable during the review period. It averaged Ksh129.82 against the US dollar in May.
EPRA reviews fuel prices monthly under the Petroleum Act 2019. The regulator considers global fuel costs, exchange rates, and other market factors before setting pump prices.
