Former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion is among 33 candidates shortlisted for interviews. The selection targets two vacant positions at the Teachers Service Commission.
The Selection Panel released the shortlist on May 25, 2026. It operates under the Teachers Service Commission Act and the Constitution of Kenya.
Officials said the panel received multiple applications for the two commissioner slots. It then narrowed down the list to candidates invited for interviews.
Sossion is scheduled to appear before the interview panel on June 4, 2026. His inclusion places him back in the national education leadership spotlight.
The Ministry of Public Service confirmed the full list of applicants is available online. Candidates will undergo structured interviews before final appointments.
Sossion’s Return to Education Governance Race
Wilson Sossion previously served as KNUT Secretary General. He later became a nominated Member of Parliament under ODM.
He built his reputation through strong involvement in teacher negotiations and education policy debates. He often represented teachers in salary and labour disputes.
Born in 1969, Sossion studied Education at Egerton University. He began his career as a secondary school teacher in Rift Valley.
Sossion later rose through KNUT ranks and became Secretary General in 2013. His leadership period saw major industrial actions in the education sector.
Nabukwesi Also Shortlisted for TSC Role
Former Principal Secretary Simon Nabukwesi is also among the shortlisted candidates. He currently serves as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Canada.
Nabukwesi previously served in the Ministry of Education as PS for University Education and Research. He oversaw higher education policy and university funding.
He has a long career in education and diplomacy spanning over two decades. His roles included serving in multiple foreign service positions.
Also, he is scheduled to appear for interviews on June 3, 2026. The panel will evaluate both candidates alongside others for the commissioner posts.
