Paul Biego has broken his silence after losing a truck worth over Ksh20 million during violent protests in Naivasha.
The Chesumei MP said protesters torched his Actros 3340 truck on Monday, May 18, during demonstrations linked to the ongoing matatu strike and anti-fuel protests.
Truck Destroyed in Naivasha
According to Biego, the truck had transported flour safely from Eldoret to Kanini Haraka Wholesalers before attackers set it on fire in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
The legislator claimed the attackers identified the vehicle as coming from the North Rift region. He warned that some groups now appear to target trucks and vehicles from the area deliberately.
Biego described the incident as a painful financial loss after years of hard work and sacrifice. He said the truck represented a major investment built through dedication and struggle.
MP Raises Concern Over Targeting
The MP expressed concern over what he termed as coordinated targeting of North Rift vehicles during the unrest. He warned that innocent business owners now face huge losses despite having no connection to the protests.
He added that many livelihoods depend on such transport businesses. According to him, violence during demonstrations continues to hurt families and destroy investments.
Biego strongly condemned the destruction witnessed during the protests. He urged authorities to restore order and protect businesses from further attacks.
Protests Continue Across Kenya
The incident happened as nationwide protests over fuel prices and transport costs continued in different towns. Demonstrators blocked roads and disrupted transport services in several regions.
Some protests later turned chaotic, leading to property destruction and clashes with police officers. Authorities continue monitoring the situation as tensions remain high across the country.
