Sifuna Removed From Senate Energy Committee Headed By Oburu. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has lost his position in the Senate Energy Committee following a new committee reshuffle. Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot announced the changes on Wednesday, June 17 during Senate proceedings.
Cheruiyot tabled a notice of motion seeking the reconstitution of several standing committees. The proposed changes will take effect after approval by the Senate.
The reshuffle nominates Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang to the Energy Committee. Kajwang will replace Sifuna and become a member of the influential committee chaired by Oburu Odinga.
Cheruiyot said the nominations followed recommendations from the Senate Business Committee. He cited Senate standing orders governing committee appointments and changes.
More Changes Across Committees
The reshuffle also affects several other Senate committees. Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu will join the ICT Committee and replace Nominated Senator Beatrice Ogolla.
Garissa Senator Abdul Mohammed Haji will also join the Energy Committee. He replaces Beatrice Ogolla, who will move to the Agriculture Committee.
The proposed committee adjustments must receive formal Senate approval before implementation. Parliamentary procedures require senators to endorse the nominations before they take effect.
Committee reconstitutions occur periodically to adjust membership and representation. The latest changes affect key committees handling major legislative and oversight responsibilities.
Move Likely to Spark Political Debate
The reshuffle comes amid growing debate within ODM over the party’s political direction. Internal disagreements have intensified as some members question the party’s cooperation with President William Ruto’s administration.
Sifuna has remained one of the strongest critics of ODM’s working relationship with UDA. His removal from the Energy Committee may trigger fresh speculation about ongoing political tensions within the party.
