IG Kanja Names New GSU Commandant

IG Kanja Names New GSU Commandant. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has appointed Johana Kiplangat Tonui as the new Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU).

The National Police Service confirmed the changes on Wednesday, saying Tonui moves from the Directorate of Operations at the Kenya Police Service to take charge of the elite security unit.

Tonui, who holds the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG), takes over from Ranson Lolmodooni. He previously served as Director of Wildlife Security at the Kenya Wildlife Service before joining the police service.

The police leadership changes also saw AIG Fredrick Egesa Nyongesa move from the GSU to serve as Deputy Commandant of the unit.

At the same time, AIG Paul Maingo Mumo left the Directorate of Quality Assurance and took up a new role as Director of the Internal Affairs Unit.

NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said the National Police Service Board recommended the transfers before IG Kanja approved them.

The new appointments took effect immediately.

The latest changes come shortly after President William Ruto announced a series of leadership changes within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), including new appointments and promotions among senior military officers.
