Former Catholic Priest Arrested Over Alleged Calls to Boycott Taxes

Ex-Priest Arrested Over Tax Boycott Calls

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a former Catholic priest over alleged social media posts targeting the government.

The 44-year-old suspect was arrested on June 1, 2026, during an operation by officers from the DCI Headquarters’ Operation Action Team in Kirigiti, Kiambu County.

According to the DCI, investigators are examining posts published on the suspect’s Facebook page. Officers claim the content outlined plans aimed at removing President William Ruto’s government through unlawful means.

DCI Cites Calls for Protests and Tax Boycotts

Investigators allege that the posts encouraged continuous demonstrations, tax boycotts, and attacks on public infrastructure.

The DCI also claims the content called for street protests throughout June, arson attacks on selected properties, and the creation of a parallel administration.

Authorities say the investigation remains active as detectives review the social media content and gather additional evidence.

Former Priest Under Investigation

The DCI identified the suspect as a former Roman Catholic priest who later joined the Catholic Charismatic Church.

According to investigators, the church allows ordained clergy to marry after leaving the Roman Catholic Church.

The agency has not yet announced any formal charges against the suspect. Authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations continue.
