Alice Wahome Urges Duale to Retract Remarks and Apologize

Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has urged Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale to withdraw his controversial remarks and apologize. She said leaders should accept responsibility for their words instead of defending them.

Wahome shared her position through a statement on Sunday. She argued that past mistakes by other leaders cannot justify fresh controversial remarks.

Wahome Calls for Accountability

The Cabinet Secretary said Duale should reconsider his position. She added that refusing to apologize only worsens the situation.

Wahome urged her colleague to demonstrate leadership through humility. She insisted that admitting a mistake strengthens public confidence.

Duale Stands His Ground

Duale has maintained that he will not apologize. He says critics misunderstood his remarks and removed them from their original context.

Speaking in Garissa, the Health CS challenged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC). He said the commission should also investigate former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

According to Duale, NCIC has applied different standards when handling similar cases. He insisted he would only honor the commission’s summons if Gachagua also appeared before it.

Pressure Continues to Mount

The controversy has attracted criticism from political leaders across the country. Several leaders have called on Duale to apologize over the remarks.

Others have urged President William Ruto to take disciplinary action if the Cabinet Secretary refuses to retract his comments. The NCIC has also opened investigations into the matter as debate over political rhetoric intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election.
