Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested three people, including an Embakasi East MCA, over the alleged illegal possession of a firearm in Nairobi.
The operation took place in the Roasters area, where officers raided an office linked to the ward representative. Investigators later took three suspects into custody as inquiries continued.
According to the DCI, detectives recovered a Glock pistol during the operation. Officers also seized a magazine loaded with 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Investigators secured the firearm and ammunition as exhibits. The agency said preliminary findings indicated the weapon lacked a valid firearm licence.
“Three suspects, including a Member of County Assembly (MCA), are now behind bars following a police operation at the Roasters area of Nairobi that led to the recovery of a Glock pistol,” the DCI said.
Suspects Remain in Custody
The three suspects remain in police custody as detectives finalize investigations. Authorities are also preparing the necessary documents ahead of their court appearance.
Kenyan law requires firearm owners to hold valid licences. Anyone found possessing a firearm without authorization risks prosecution.
The arrests come as security agencies intensify operations against illegal firearms and violent crime. Investigators have recently taken action against several political leaders facing different criminal investigations.
On Monday, police detained a UDA Member of Parliament after he presented himself to detectives investigating violent clashes in Nakuru County. The incident left three people nursing gunshot wounds during a youth empowerment event.
More Pressure on Public Officials
Separately, the Senate Committee on National Security ordered the arrest of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika over her failure to appear before an ongoing inquiry. Senators want her to respond to issues surrounding the disappearance of fisherman Brian Odhiambo and concerns linked to Lake Nakuru.
The latest developments place several public officials under scrutiny as law enforcement agencies and parliamentary committees pursue ongoing investigations. Authorities have indicated that no suspect will receive special treatment as the cases move forward.
