Lawyer and Safina deputy party leader Willis Otieno has criticized President William Ruto, claiming the Kenya Kwanza administration focused on consolidating power rather than transforming governance.
In a statement shared on X on June 13, Otieno argued that the government has failed to deliver the institutional reforms many Kenyans expected after the 2022 General Election.
According to him, the administration did not seek to dismantle systems that previous governments allegedly used for political and economic advantage.
Otieno stated that the current government has expanded and refined existing power structures instead of replacing them.
“Ruto’s mission was never to transform the state; it was to surpass his predecessor in the politics of accumulation,” he said.
He further argued that public institutions have increasingly become tools for political influence and resource control rather than public service.
The lawyer maintained that Kenya’s governance challenges stem from a political culture that places elite interests above those of ordinary citizens.
He noted that many voters expected greater accountability, transparency, and improved service delivery under the current administration.
Otieno claimed that what many viewed as a reform agenda has evolved into a system centered on power, patronage, and control.
“The objective was not to dismantle the old order, but to perfect it,” he stated, adding that the pursuit of political influence now overshadows the promise of renewal that many Kenyans hoped for.
