Jalang’o Promises to Pay DJ Cahill After ODM Events Dispute

Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor has pledged to compensate DJ Cahill after the entertainer raised complaints over unpaid performances at several Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) political events.

DJ Cahill listed several rallies and party functions where he said he provided entertainment but did not receive proper payment. He named events such as the Ragumo rally in Kisumu, Nairobi SDC, the Bondo Kango Ka Jaramogi declaration event, a fundraiser at Nyanya Golf Club, an aspirants’ meeting at Royal Switz, and the Kisumu Wabiro mega rally.

Claims of Low Payment and Financial Strain

The DJ further said that during rallies in Migori and Narok, he only received KSh7,000, which he said covered transport only.

He publicly reached out to Jalang’o, saying he had tried many times to contact him without success. He added that he faces financial pressure, including family support, school fees, and daily expenses.

Equipment Damage Complaint

Cahill also said his laptop got damaged during one of the rallies after long exposure to heat. He claimed the damage affected his ability to work and earn income.

Jalang’o’s Response

In response, Jalang’o said he had already spoken to DJ Cahill. He explained that ODM did not officially hire or contract the DJ for the events.

He said Cahill attended and performed voluntarily, without a formal agreement or written contract from the party.

Advice on Professional Agreements

Jalang’o said the situation should act as a lesson for entertainers and service providers. He stressed the need for clear contracts before any work begins.

He also advised artists to agree on payment terms in advance and, where possible, secure payment before delivering services.

Promise to Settle Payment

Even with the disagreement, Jalang’o said he would still pay DJ Cahill the amount requested to resolve the issue and avoid further conflict.
