Ruto Makes Immediate Changes in Presidential Security Team After Kilifi Breach

The National Police Service has reshuffled President William Ruto’s security team after a security breach in Kilifi County. The changes came hours after a man accessed the presidential dais during an event in Ganze.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat transferred Noah Kirwa Maiyo from the Presidential Escort Unit command. Authorities redeployed him to Vigilance House in Nairobi.

William Sawe now takes over as the new Presidential Escort Unit commandant. Before the appointment, Sawe led the elite Recce sub-unit.

Police said the changes took immediate effect across the affected departments. The new team now carries responsibility for strengthening presidential security operations.

More Changes Inside Ruto’s Security Team
Juda Matthews Gwiyo, who served as Deputy Commandant of the Presidential Escort Unit, proceeded on leave before retirement. Authorities then appointed George Kirera as the new deputy commandant.

Kirera previously served as the staffing officer within the Presidential Escort Unit. The reshuffle also affected the Recce squad leadership structure.

Josephat Sirma now heads the Recce sub-unit after Sawe’s transfer. The National Police Service said the adjustments aim to strengthen operational efficiency.

Inspector General Douglas Kanja ordered immediate changes after the Kilifi security scare. A man managed to reach close to President Ruto during a public event.

Security officers quickly intervened before the situation escalated further. Kanja later announced plans to tighten security protocols and seal operational weaknesses.

The incident renewed concerns about repeated breaches involving the president’s public appearances. Critics have questioned the speed and coordination of the presidential security team.

Repeated Security Breaches Raise Questions
This was not the first incident involving President Ruto’s security. In February, another man accessed a podium while the president addressed a gathering.

Security officers tackled the individual before he reached the president. The repeated incidents have intensified scrutiny over the preparedness of Ruto’s protection team.

Analysts now expect stricter crowd control measures during presidential tours. Security agencies also face pressure to restore public confidence in state protection systems.
