A Form Three student has been arrested after a fight with another pupil turned deadly in Embobut, Elgeyo Marakwet County. Police say the suspect allegedly struck a Grade Nine student during a confrontation at Kaptul village on March 2.
The victim, a learner at Chawis Junior Secondary School, suffered a serious head injury during the fight. Witnesses say the suspect used a piece of wood to strike the student on the head.
Residents and fellow learners rushed the injured boy to a nearby hospital for treatment. Doctors attempted to save his life, but he later died from the severe head injuries.
Police say the Form Three student later surrendered himself at Embobut Police Station after the incident. Officers placed him in custody as detectives began investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal confrontation.
Investigators visited the scene shortly after receiving reports about the fight. Officers recovered a wooden club believed to have been used during the attack.
Authorities say the suspect will remain in police custody as investigations continue. Detectives are expected to recommend possible murder charges once they complete their investigations into the tragic incident.
