Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs has broken his silence following the fatal shooting of youth mobiliser Cecil Ouma. He said he will fully cooperate with investigators to help establish the truth.
Fikirini addressed the press on Thursday, July 2, after presenting himself to police. He confirmed that detectives had already recorded his statement.
The Principal Secretary said he would support ongoing investigations. He added that authorities should establish the facts and ensure justice prevails.
His statement follows the fatal shooting of Ouma during a youth empowerment programme in Kariokor, Nairobi County. The incident occurred on July 1.
Conflicting Accounts Emerge
Witnesses claimed a disagreement erupted after Fikirini gave youths a cash token. Some allegedly rejected the amount, saying it was too little.
According to witnesses, Ouma volunteered to return the money to the PS’s vehicle. They alleged that a confrontation then broke out inside the moving vehicle.
However, investigators continue to examine conflicting accounts surrounding the shooting. Some witnesses allege excessive force, while others claim Ouma tried to grab a bodyguard’s firearm during the altercation.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that a gunshot killed Ouma. Detectives continue investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
