Veteran gynaecologist and director at Nairobi Hospital, Job Obwaka, has died at the age of 83.
His family confirmed that he passed away on the evening of his admission at the same hospital where he served patients for decades. His wife, Everose Obwaka, said he died at 7:00 pm.
Hospital staff said he arrived at the facility unconscious. Doctors examined him immediately and confirmed his death shortly after arrival. Authorities have not released the cause of death.
Dr Obwaka built a strong reputation in Kenya’s medical field through years of practice in gynaecology. He contributed to maternal healthcare and supported the growth of Nairobi Hospital as a key private medical institution. His work placed him among experienced practitioners who shaped healthcare delivery in the country.
Colleagues and members of the public have started sharing reactions, focusing on his professional impact and long service. Many remember his role in treating patients and guiding medical operations within the hospital.
His death closes a career that spanned several decades in active medical service. It also draws attention because he spent much of his professional life at the same institution where he died.
The family is expected to announce burial arrangements and further details in the coming days as the medical community continues to reflect on his contribution.
