Raila Odinga Junior has issued a formal clarification regarding the viral Kilgoris video that has circulated widely on social media, describing the footage as misleading.
The clip shows him speaking to residents through a wire fence and has fueled online debate about inequality and political privilege after Charlene Ruto’s traditional wedding in Kilgoris, Narok County.
Video Emerged After Charlene Ruto’s Koito
The footage surfaced after the invite-only Koito ceremony for President William Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Ruto, and her partner Isaya Yunge on August 8.
In the video, Raila Junior tells the crowd:
“Let’s sit down and bring development here. We will sit and see what the problem of Kenyans is, including the problem of the people on the ground, and not the problems of the people on the top.”
Many social media users interpreted the scene as having taken place outside the President’s private residence.
Raila Junior Says It Happened at Kilgoris Airstrip
In a statement released on August 11, Raila Junior said the interaction did not occur at President Ruto’s home.
He explained that the encounter happened at the public airstrip in Kilgoris shortly after he disembarked from an aircraft.
“For clarity, this was not at the President’s private home. It took place at the public airstrip in Kilgoris,” he said.
He added that local residents recognised him, waved him over and asked to greet him.
Fence Was a Safety Barrier, He Says
Raila Junior also addressed the fence visible in the video, saying it served a safety purpose rather than symbolising exclusion.
“The fence is a standard safety barrier that protects the landing area for aircraft,” he stated.
He argued that online users had overlooked that detail while sharing the clip.
Hints at Future Political Ambitions
The ODM leader’s son said he appreciated the attention Kenyans have given to his public activities and described the public’s interest as impressive.
He also hinted at possible political ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election, suggesting that he may seek a parliamentary seat.
Raila Junior promised to share more updates about his activities in the future as public interest in his movements continues to grow.
