A passenger train collided with a bus in Githurai, Nairobi, on Friday evening after the bus attempted to cross the railway tracks.
The crash occurred at around 6:30pm and caused extensive damage to the bus, train and nearby property.
Train Pushes Bus Along Tracks
CCTV footage from the scene shows the bus moving across the railway line when the train struck its driver’s side.
The impact pushed the bus along the tracks and dragged a parked vehicle before the train stopped.
The collision also damaged a nearby structure and scattered debris across the area.
No Serious Injuries Reported
Initial reports indicated that no fatalities or serious injuries occurred in the crash.
The bus driver quickly emerged from the vehicle after the collision as witnesses rushed to the scene.
The impact generated dust and smoke, prompting several bystanders to run away from the area.
Train Operated Nairobi-Ruiru Route
The train involved, marked 9306, operated on the Nairobi Central Station-Ruiru passenger route.
The bus belonged to a Githurai 45 SACCO and was travelling from Nairobi CBD towards Githurai when the collision occurred.
The incident comes days after a Nairobi-Nyahururu passenger train partially derailed at Ol Kalou Railway Station, with no injuries reported.
Kenya Railways has previously urged motorists and pedestrians to use authorised railway crossings and avoid attempting to cross ahead of approaching trains.
