Morara Kebaso Joins Jubilee Party to Vie Borabu MP Seat. Political activist-turned-politician Morara Kebaso has announced that he will vie for the Borabu parliamentary seat on a Jubilee Party ticket. The decision puts the INJECT Party he founded less than two years ago on hold as he prepares for the 2027 General Election.
Kebaso made the announcement during an interview with media personality and comedian Oga Obinna on Monday night, June 29. He said political realities in Nyamira County and the larger Gusii region influenced his decision to join Jubilee.
Kebaso Explains Party Switch
The activist said he will temporarily set aside the Injection of National Justice, Economic and Civic Transformation (INJECT) Party. He explained that Jubilee currently offers the strongest political platform in his home region.
“INJECT Party itakaa kwa kabati, kwa saa hizi tunafanya kazi na chama cha Dr Fred Matiang’i, Jubilee Party. Yes, I have joined the Jubilee Party, we have to go with the realities of the politics of the day,” Kebaso said.
He argued that voters in Borabu, Nyamira County and the wider Gusii region strongly identify with Jubilee. According to Kebaso, any candidate seeking support in the area must consider the region’s political landscape.
“Pale Borabu, ama Nyamira County, ama Gusii region, huwezi kutaja kitu ingine. Lazima ikuwe Jubilee and you know you don’t want to make people emotional because they won’t even listen to the message that you have. They won’t even give you an opportunity to serve them,” he added.
Eyes Borabu Parliamentary Seat
Kebaso said he will contest the Borabu parliamentary seat under the Jubilee Party. His announcement marks a major political shift after he spent months promoting INJECT as a youth-led movement focused on governance reforms.
He launched the party after gaining national attention during the 2024 Gen Z protests. The movement attracted young supporters who backed his calls for accountability, economic reforms and civic transformation.
Matiang’i Factor
Kebaso’s move also strengthens Jubilee’s preparations for the 2027 General Election in the Gusii region. The party has rallied behind former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who now serves as Jubilee’s deputy party leader and presidential flag-bearer.
His decision signals a strategy that prioritises established political structures over newer parties. It also highlights the growing importance of regional political dynamics as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
