Activist Davis Lichuma has resurfaced after disappearing for more than three days during an alleged abduction incident. He was found on Sunday evening, June 28, receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.
Human rights groups said Lichuma appeared seriously injured when activists located him inside the public hospital. They alleged unknown individuals tortured and assaulted him before abandoning him at the medical facility.
Human rights activist Hussein Khalid confirmed activists traced Lichuma shortly after demanding his immediate release publicly. He said colleagues were arranging his transfer from KNH to a private hospital for specialized treatment.
The Social Justice Centres Working Group expressed relief after confirming Lichuma’s whereabouts following his disappearance. However, the organization raised serious concerns about his physical and psychological condition after the alleged ordeal.
The group said Lichuma could not speak when activists found him receiving treatment at the hospital. It questioned what he may have endured during the period he remained missing from public view.
Police had not released an official statement explaining Lichuma’s disappearance or circumstances surrounding his hospital admission. Authorities also remained silent regarding allegations linking the incident to an alleged abduction and torture.
