The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has updated the list of private universities eligible for HELB funding. The update followed the official opening of the 2026 placement portal on April seven.
KUCCPS confirmed that thirty one private universities now qualify for Higher Education Loans Board support. Students admitted to these institutions can apply for loans but will not receive government scholarships.
Government sponsorship remains limited to forty three public universities and the Open University of Kenya. The placement window will run until May six, giving applicants time to revise their choices.
KUCCPS also confirmed that two hundred seventy five public TVET colleges qualify for both loans and scholarships. However, one hundred fifty seven other public colleges, including KMTC, will only access HELB funding.
The eligible private universities include Africa International University Nairobi and Africa Nazarene University Kajiado. Others are Amref International University Nairobi and Catholic University of Eastern Africa Nairobi.
The list also features Daystar University Machakos and Great Lakes University of Kisumu Kisumu. Gretsa University Kiambu and International Leadership University Nairobi also qualified under the updated funding framework.
Islamic University of Kenya Nairobi and Kabarak University Nakuru also made the list. KCA University Nairobi and Kenya Assemblies of God East University Kiambu also qualified.
Kenya Highlands Evangelical University Kericho and Kenya Methodist University Meru also secured eligibility. Kiriri Women’s University of Science and Technology Nairobi and Lukenya University Machakos also appear.
Management University of Africa Nairobi and Marist International University College Nairobi also qualified. Mount Kenya University Kiambu and Outspan Global University Nyeri also made the list.
Pan Africa Christian University Nairobi and Pioneer International University Nairobi also qualified. Presbyterian University of East Africa Kiambu and Riara University Nairobi also appear.
Scott Christian University Machakos and St Paul’s University Kiambu also made the list. Tangaza University Nairobi and The East African University Kajiado also qualified.
University of Eastern Africa Baraton Nandi and Uzima University Kisumu also appear. Zetech University Nairobi completes the list of institutions eligible for HELB loans.
KUCCPS data shows universities received three hundred twenty two thousand three hundred ninety six approved degree slots. Out of nine hundred eighty thousand candidates, two hundred sixty eight thousand qualified for university placement.
