The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall in 16 counties during this week’s weather outlook. The agency also expects cool conditions in parts of the Central Highlands while many other regions remain dry.
Weather experts advised residents in the affected counties to prepare for changing conditions. The forecast covers the period beginning Monday, July 13.
According to the department, showers will likely fall in Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Busia, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Kisii. Kericho, Bomet, Narok, Nakuru, Nyamira, Vihiga, Uasin Gishu and Nandi also appear on the rainfall list.
The agency expects the showers to affect different areas at varying times throughout the week. Residents should monitor daily weather updates because conditions may change.
Cool Weather to Persist in Central Kenya
The department also expects cool and cloudy conditions across several counties in central Kenya. Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru and Tharaka-Nithi will experience lower daytime temperatures.
The cloudy conditions could continue for several days in some locations. Residents may therefore experience chilly mornings and evenings during the forecast period.
While some counties receive rain, other regions will continue experiencing high daytime temperatures. Parts of Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Wajir, Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi and West Pokot could record temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department advised residents in these areas to take precautions against excessive daytime heat. People should stay hydrated and limit prolonged exposure to direct sunshine whenever possible.
Cold Nights Likely in Several Counties
The forecast also indicates that several counties could record night temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. Residents in Nyandarua, Nyeri, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Baringo, Kajiado and Taita Taveta should prepare for colder nights.
People living in these regions may need warm clothing, especially during the early morning hours. The low temperatures could persist throughout much of the week.
The latest forecast follows last week’s outlook, which predicted rainfall across more than 30 counties. During that period, the department also warned of strong winds in parts of northern, eastern and coastal Kenya.
The changing forecasts show that weather conditions continue shifting across different regions. The Meteorological Department has encouraged Kenyans to keep following its regular updates before making travel or outdoor plans.
