Kenneth Lusaka Fires Entire Bungoma Cabinet, County Attorney and Secretary in Sudden Shake-Up

Kenneth Lusaka has abruptly dismissed all Members of the County Executive Committee (CECM), alongside the County Attorney and County Secretary, in a sweeping move that has sent shockwaves across Bungoma County.

In a statement issued on Thursday, April 9, Lusaka said the decision was part of a major reorganisation aimed at restoring efficiency and strengthening service delivery. He invoked his constitutional authority, stating that the drastic action was necessary to realign the county government with its core mandate.

According to the statement, all affected officials have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect under Section 40(1)(a) of the County Government Act. Lusaka insisted the move was made in good faith and in the public interest, framing it as a strategic reset rather than a political purge.

What stands out—and raises serious questions—is that no replacements have been named. That leaves a leadership vacuum at the top of the county administration. Lusaka only indicated that interim arrangements and fresh appointments will be communicated later, without giving timelines. That uncertainty creates risk, whether he admits it or not.

The county government attempted to contain public concern by assuring residents that essential services will continue without disruption. But realistically, when you fire an entire executive layer overnight, continuity is never as smooth as press statements suggest.

The timing also looks far from coincidental. The purge comes just hours after the Bungoma County Assembly confirmed it had received impeachment motions against a county official. That connection is hard to ignore. Either Lusaka is preempting deeper internal conflict—or reacting to pressure.

Bottom line: this is a high-stakes gamble. If Lusaka replaces the team with competent leadership quickly, he regains control. If not, he risks administrative paralysis and political backlash.
