The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has reminded Ol Kalou voters to prepare for Thursday’s parliamentary by-election. The commission also confirmed that all campaign activities must end by Monday evening as required by law.
IEBC urged every registered voter to verify their polling station before election day arrives. The electoral body also reminded voters to carry the correct identification documents when casting their ballots.
IEBC Lists Documents Required for Voting
According to the commission, voters must present an original national identity card at their designated polling stations. Those without identification cards may also use valid Kenyan passports to verify their identity before voting.
IEBC encouraged eligible voters to arrive at their assigned polling stations with the required documents. The commission said proper identification will help ensure a smooth voting process across the constituency.
The electoral body confirmed that all campaign activities must stop at exactly 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The requirement follows election laws requiring campaigns to end forty-eight hours before polling begins.
IEBC urged candidates, political parties, and supporters to comply fully with the legal campaign deadline. The commission warned that everyone involved should respect the rules governing the by-election.
Gachagua Speaks on Ol Kalou Visit
Meanwhile, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claimed he advised Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata against visiting Ol Kalou. He said he conveyed the message through Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu before Sunday’s political activities.
Gachagua claimed he stayed away from the constituency because he was aware of an alleged plan. He further alleged that some individuals intended to take advantage of Kang’ata’s presence during the campaigns.
Gachagua also dismissed claims suggesting his political camp had differences with the Linda Mwananchi movement. He said he previously encouraged his supporters to work alongside leaders associated with the movement.
The former deputy president recalled addressing supporters during a political event held in Thika. He maintained that cooperation between different political groups remained important despite recent political disagreements.
