Kenyans enrolled in the Social Health Authority (SHA) Lipa Pole Pole programme can now opt out using a simplified mobile-based process. The authority introduced the update to improve convenience for contributors.
SHA confirmed that members no longer need to visit offices to exit the instalment-based payment plan. Instead, they can complete the process directly through their mobile phones using a USSD code.
How to Opt Out via Mobile Phone
Users must dial *147# using the phone number registered under their national ID. They then select the “Kenyan Citizen” option and proceed to the menu.
Next, users enter their ID details and navigate to the “Make Payments” section. From there, they select the “SHA Lipa Pole Pole” option and choose the “Opt Out” feature to complete the process.
SHA stated that the system provides a quick and user-friendly experience. Members receive instant confirmation once they successfully exit the programme.
SHA Emphasizes Convenience and Flexibility
The authority said the digital process aims to reduce delays and eliminate the need for physical visits to offices. It also gives contributors more control over their health insurance payments.
SHA added that users who opt out can rejoin the programme at any time using the same USSD process. The flexibility allows members to adjust their participation based on their financial situation.
The move forms part of broader efforts to improve access to healthcare services through digital platforms across the country.
