DIG Lagat Names New Traffic Commandant

Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi has been appointed the new Traffic Commandant. He replaces Dr Fredrick Ochieng, who was recalled to police headquarters.

Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat also recalled Central Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati. Railway Police boss Geoffrey Maiyek will replace him in the position.

Senior officer John Chebii returns from the Haiti mission to take over as Eastern Regional Police Commander. He replaces Hillary Birgen, who has been recalled to headquarters.

The new Uasin Gishu County police boss will be Wilberforce Sicharani. Officials said the changes aim to strengthen operations ahead of next year’s elections.

Five County Commissioners have been recalled to the Office of the President in Nairobi. These changes affect Trans Nzoia, Isiolo, Machakos, Kilifi, and Tana River counties.

Other transfers include Joseph Kibet Boen from Kiambu to Kilifi and Stephen Kutwa Sangolo from Baringo to Lamu. The redeployments address security and administrative needs.

Jacob Muganda has been promoted and moved to Eastern Regional Commissioner, replacing Paul Rotich who now serves in the Coast Region. Kakamega County Commissioner Onesmus Musyoki Kyatha moves to Nyanza.

Murkomen said the reshuffle considers officers’ experience and current security challenges. The changes also cover counties with persistent cross-border and security issues.

Officers deployed to Garissa, Marsabit, Isiolo, and Samburu will tackle border and security threats. Murkomen stated these changes reward performance and ensure stronger service delivery nationwide.
