The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has identified Police Constable Elijah Kibelion Kimoi as the officer suspected of fatally shooting psychologist Dr Victoria Mutiso.
DCI Director Mohamed Amin announced the development during a press briefing at Magereza House on Friday, August 7, saying detectives arrested the officer after evidence linked him to the fatal shooting.
Officer Attached to Karinde Police Post
According to Amin, Kimoi serves at Karinde Police Post. Investigators say evidence gathered during the inquiry identified him as the suspect who allegedly pulled the trigger during the attack that killed Dr Mutiso.
The DCI director said the arrest followed intensive investigations involving forensic analysis, witness statements and intelligence gathered from the crime scene.
Ballistic Tests Link Weapon to Another Inspector
Amin also disclosed that ballistic examinations linked the murder weapon to a firearm allegedly owned by a police inspector attached to Nderi Police Post under Kikuyu Police Station.
The inspector is currently being sought by detectives and remains on the run. Investigators believe he played a key role in facilitating the attack and linking the alleged financiers to the suspected hitmen.
Land Dispute Under Investigation
The DCI says preliminary investigations point to a long-running land dispute as a possible motive behind the killing.
Amin stated that detectives believe the murder was carefully coordinated and involved several individuals who allegedly planned, financed and executed the attack.
Additional Suspects Being Pursued
Authorities have already arrested two suspects in connection with the case, including the police constable identified as the alleged shooter.
Investigators say they are pursuing other suspects believed to have participated in planning or facilitating the killing.
The DCI has not yet disclosed the identities of the additional suspects being sought, and the investigation remains active as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding Dr Victoria Mutiso’s death.
