CS Ogamba Announces School Calendar Review. Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba has confirmed that the Ministry of Education will adjust the school calendar by shortening the second term starting from the 2027 academic year.
Change to Term Structure
Ogamba said the government plans to balance all school terms after concerns emerged over unrest in senior secondary schools. He linked part of the disruption to the long second term in the current calendar.
He explained that Term 2 currently runs for 14 weeks, while Term 1 has 12 weeks and Term 3 has nine weeks. Under the new plan, all terms will run for 12 weeks each.
Mid-Term Breaks Remain Unchanged
The CS clarified that this year’s mid-term break will still run from June 24 to June 28. He added that schools will decide individually on arrangements for learners already at home due to unrest.
Guidance for Parents and Schools
Ogamba urged parents to use school breaks to guide their children and address any concerns affecting learners. He also told schools to hold urgent Parents Association meetings to discuss student welfare and discipline.
Ongoing School Unrest Concerns
His remarks come as school unrest continues to affect more than 200 institutions across the country. The government has called for cooperation between parents, schools, and learners to restore stability in the education sector.
