Health CS Summoned Over US-Ebola Quarantine Deal

The Parliamentary Health Committee has summoned Health CS Aden Duale and senior ministry officials over the proposed US Ebola quarantine centre in Kenya. Lawmakers directed the officials to appear next Tuesday.

The summons came as the High Court suspended plans to establish the Ebola quarantine facility in Laikipia County. The court issued conservatory orders on Friday, May 29.

Katiba Institute filed the urgent petition at the Milimani Law Courts seeking to stop the project. The organization argued that the proposed arrangement raises serious constitutional and public health concerns.

Court Warns Against Violating Orders

The High Court warned individuals and institutions against defying the conservatory orders. The court stated that violations would attract legal consequences.

The orders temporarily stopped the establishment and implementation of the quarantine facility pending further hearings. The case now awaits judicial determination.

The proposed centre sparked national debate and public concern over Kenya’s role in handling Ebola-exposed foreign nationals. Critics questioned the health and legal implications of the arrangement.

Duale Defends Government Position

Health CS Aden Duale recently attempted to calm growing public anxiety surrounding the issue. He said Kenya would follow strict public health laws and biosafety standards.

Duale maintained that any international health agreements would remain subject to Kenyan laws and regulations. He insisted the government would prioritize the safety of citizens and health workers.

The controversy continues attracting political, legal, and public attention as pressure mounts on the government to explain the proposed arrangement.
