Government Releases 2026 National Holidays Calendar, Wajir to Host Historic Madaraka Day

The Kenyan government has released the official 2026 calendar for national events, outlining key celebrations and host counties across the country. The schedule highlights major national days and assigns each event to specific regions.

Chief of Staff Felix Koskei confirmed the plan through a circular from the Executive Office of the President. He said the events will promote unity and strengthen national identity across counties.

Labour Day falls on May 1 in Vihiga County. Madaraka Day comes next on June 1 in Wajir County. This event marks the first time the county will host the national celebration.

The government has already started major preparations in Wajir. Crews continue building a 10,000-seat stadium ahead of the event. Teams also upgrade Wajir International Airport to handle increased traffic.

An international Ocean Conference runs from June 16 to 18 in Mombasa County and Kilifi County. The event will attract global attention and boost coastal activities.

Katiba Day comes on August 27 in Nairobi under the theme of education and skills development. Mazingira Day follows on October 10 in Trans Nzoia County.

Mashujaa Day falls on October 20 in Elgeyo-Marakwet County. Jamhuri Day comes on December 12 in Kiambu County, led by William Ruto.

Minorities Day closes the calendar on December 18 in Marsabit County. The event will focus on diversity and inclusion.

The government has tasked Dennis Itumbi with coordinating preparations to ensure all events run smoothly.
