Murder Witness Killed in Cold Blood in Siaya

Police have launched a manhunt for a criminal gang suspected of abducting and killing a man in Amayo village, Bondo Sub-County, Siaya County. Investigators believe the killing was targeted and directly connected to an ongoing murder case in which the victim played a critical role.

The deceased, identified as Hezron Nyamburi, aged 37, was a key prosecution witness in the murder of 75-year-old Dennis Ambrose Achieng. Achieng was killed on November 14, 2025, along the Orengo–Gul Min Ougo Road under circumstances that shocked the local community. Nyamburi’s cooperation with investigators had reportedly placed him at the centre of the case.

According to police, three suspects linked to Achieng’s murder were arrested and arraigned in court through a miscellaneous application. The court later released them on a cash bail of Sh100,000 each, pending plea taking scheduled for January 19, 2026. Detectives now suspect that Nyamburi’s killing was meant to interfere with the judicial process by silencing a key witness.

On the afternoon of January 16, 2026, unknown assailants reportedly stormed Nyamburi’s home and forcibly abducted him. Witnesses told police that the attackers pushed him onto a motorcycle before speeding off. Several hours later, residents discovered his body dumped in a swamp in Ndati village, a short distance from his home area.

Police officers responded to the scene and recovered the body, which they transferred to the mortuary for preservation and post-mortem examination. Investigators have since intensified efforts to trace those responsible, treating the case as a retaliatory and premeditated killing.

Detectives handling the matter believe the attackers carefully planned the abduction and murder, possibly with insider knowledge of Nyamburi’s role in the earlier case. Police have already questioned several individuals and are following leads linking the killing to suspects connected to the pending court case.

The incident has triggered fear and anger among local residents, who expressed concern over rising cases of violent crime and witness intimidation in the area. Some locals demanded immediate arrests, warning that failure to act could fuel retaliatory attacks and further insecurity.

Police commanders who visited the village assured residents that security agencies are taking the matter seriously. They urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigators by sharing any information that could help identify the killers.

Authorities also confirmed that a suspect had been arrested over the earlier murder of Dennis Achieng, as investigations continue. Police say they are increasing patrols and intelligence operations in Bondo to curb a worrying rise in violent and bizarre killings reported in recent months.
