At least one person has died and three others sustained injuries after a city shuttle bus lost control and crashed into several vehicles on Monday morning.
The accident occurred near Pan Afric Hotel along Valley Road, causing major traffic disruption along the busy route.
Images and videos from the scene showed the left front side of the bus heavily damaged after the crash.
Witnesses said the shuttle bus lost its brakes before veering off the road and colliding with oncoming traffic. The vehicle reportedly rammed into three vehicles during the incident, leaving some with severe damage.
One witness described the chaotic scene that unfolded shortly after the crash.
“We had an accident today where a city shuttle bus lost control because its brakes failed and rammed into three vehicles. One person died and three others sustained injuries. Everyone survived except a motorbike rider who was dragged for a long distance,” the witness said.
Police officers and emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to assist victims and manage traffic. The crash caused significant congestion along the road as authorities worked to clear the wreckage.
Emergency teams provided first aid to the injured before rushing them to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities later towed the damaged bus from the scene to allow traffic to flow normally again. Investigators will now examine the vehicle to determine the exact cause of the crash.
Police will focus on whether mechanical failure, including brake failure, contributed to the accident.
The incident adds to growing concerns over road safety involving public service vehicles in the city. Authorities continue to urge drivers and transport operators to ensure vehicles remain in proper mechanical condition to prevent similar tragedies.
