Police Reveals Huge Number of Protesters Arrested During Fuel Protests

Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud says police arrested 225 people during ongoing fuel price protests across the city.

Mohamud said protesters broke the law during demonstrations and police took action to restore order. He warned that all suspects will face legal charges.

He confirmed that protesters vandalised five police vehicles and damaged another civilian vehicle during clashes. He also reported that six police officers sustained injuries in the confrontations.

The commander urged protesters to follow legal channels when raising grievances. He warned against road blockades, violence, and destruction of property.

He said authorities will not allow individuals to disrupt business operations or public order in Nairobi.

Mohamud also claimed no protest-related deaths occurred in Nairobi, although reports from other regions continue to surface.

The protests erupted after a sharp increase in fuel prices, triggering anger among motorists and transport operators. Many public service vehicles remained off the roads, worsening transport disruption.

Police continue monitoring the situation as demonstrations spread across different parts of the country.
