Several classrooms and the administration block at Jomo Kenyatta Boys High School in Nakuru County have been damaged after a fire broke out overnight. The blaze erupted after midnight, prompting an emergency response from firefighters, teachers, and nearby residents.
Bahati Member of Parliament Irene Njoki confirmed the incident through a statement released on Monday, July 13. She said the fire caused significant destruction but all students, teachers, and support staff remained safe.
Njoki praised teachers, members of the local community, and firefighters for responding quickly to the emergency. She said their efforts helped contain the flames before they spread to more parts of the school.
The legislator also expressed support for the affected school community following the incident. She assured the institution of her solidarity as it begins recovering from the destruction.
Authorities Asked to Investigate Cause
The Bahati lawmaker called on security agencies to establish what caused the fire at the school. She urged investigators to take appropriate action if they find anyone responsible for the incident.
Preliminary information indicates investigators are treating the fire as a possible case of arson. However, authorities have not released official findings regarding the cause of the blaze.
The Nakuru incident comes shortly after another fire disrupted learning at Chianda Boys High School. The institution suspended operations after one of its dormitories caught fire during the night.
School administrators confirmed that no student suffered injuries during the dormitory fire. Following guidance from the Ministry of Education, the school released learners to return home.
Parents Asked to Collect Students
The administration directed parents and guardians to collect their children after the school’s temporary closure. Families unable to travel immediately were advised to send transport money to facilitate the students’ journeys.
Authorities continue investigating both incidents as concerns grow over recent school fires reported in different parts of the country. Education officials are expected to monitor the affected institutions as recovery efforts continue.
