Former Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has confirmed the death of Vincent, widely known as “Mapinduzi,” a supporter of the Linda Mwananchi movement who was injured during a violent confrontation in Keumbu, Kisii County.
Machogu said Mapinduzi died after sustaining injuries during a stone-pelting incident reported on Friday, July 3, 2026. He described him as a vocal supporter of the movement and a victim of rising political violence.
He said the incident highlights the growing risks linked to political clashes, urging restraint among rival groups.
“Mapinduzi was a firm believer in the Linda Mwananchi movement. His death shows the painful cost of political violence, which has no place in a democratic society,” Machogu said.
The former CS called on authorities to carry out a full investigation into the attack. He urged detectives to identify and prosecute those responsible without delay.
“I strongly condemn this act and call on relevant agencies to ensure a thorough investigation. Those behind it must face justice,” he added.
Machogu also appealed for calm among political supporters, warning that continued hostility could worsen tensions in the region.
He said political competition should never turn into physical confrontation or loss of life.
“As leaders and citizens, we must reject violence and intolerance. Disagreements must stay within democratic and peaceful channels,” he said.
He extended condolences to the family of the deceased, describing the loss as painful and avoidable.
Police earlier confirmed they arrested three suspects in connection with the Keumbu attack. Investigators said they are pursuing additional individuals linked to the incident as probes continue.
The National Police Service said officers reviewed video evidence to establish the location and circumstances of the attack. It confirmed that multiple units are involved in the ongoing investigation.
Authorities also ordered an internal review to determine whether police response gaps contributed to the violence. The Internal Affairs Unit has already deployed officers to the area.
Police condemned the incident, warning that political violence will be investigated and prosecuted under the law.
