Defence Ministry Named Best Performing Government Ministry. The Ministry of Defence has emerged as the best-performing ministry in the 2024/25 financial year. President William Ruto presented the award during a conference in Nairobi.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya received the award alongside senior ministry officials. Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru and KDF officer Peter Limo also attended.
Tuya said the recognition reflects the ministry’s focus on efficiency and accountability. She added that the ministry has strengthened service delivery across its operations.
The Defence CS said the ministry continues to support key government priorities. She noted that performance contracts have helped improve results.
KDF Personnel Credited
Tuya praised members of the Kenya Defence Forces for their contribution. She also recognised civilian staff working within the ministry.
According to her, teamwork and professionalism drove the ministry’s success. She said the award reflects the commitment shown by employees.
The Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs Development also received recognition. It emerged as the most improved ministry during the review period.
Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya welcomed the award. He said it demonstrates the ministry’s commitment to better public service.
Focus on Small Businesses
Oparanya said the ministry will continue supporting cooperatives and small enterprises. He described the sector as a major driver of jobs and economic growth.
The CS said the recognition will motivate his team to improve further. He pledged to expand programmes that support entrepreneurs across the country.
The awards formed part of the inaugural National Productivity and Performance Conference. The government used the event to promote accountability in public institutions.
Officials said performance evaluations help improve service delivery. They also encourage ministries to achieve measurable results.
